GETTING ABOUT AT COLTON HOUSE

Colton House is a magnificent Grade II* listed home set in a quiet picturesque village on the edge of Cannock Chase with 11 double bedrooms, dining for up to 25 and buffet facilities for 50. All bedrooms are en-suite with both baths and showers.

When you book we will ask you a few questions so we can personalise your stay.  Details and the breakfast menu can be provided in large print by prior arrangement.

 

GETTING HERE

The nearest bus station is in Rugeley, approximately two miles away. A taxi from there would cost about £10. There is a local taxi service (01889 584545) that has accessible taxis if required.

East Midland and Birmingham Airports are both within 40 miles. The nearest train station is Rugeley Trent Valley on the West Coast line about a mile from our home. Collection can be arranged from stations and airports.

 

BY ROAD

From M6 junction 12
At Junction 12 take the A5 to Cannock. At the A34 turn left onto A460 to Rugeley.

In Rugeley at the roundabout with A51 take the second exit onto B5013 towards Uttoxeter, continue for 2 miles, turn right into Colton, we are the three storey Georgian house half a mile along on the right.

From M1 – Junction 24
At Junction 24 take the A50 to Uttoxeter, then A518 for 2 miles

Turn onto B5013 towards Rugeley after 8 miles Turn left into Colton, we are the three storey Georgian house half a mile along on the right.

From M6 Toll Road – Junction T4
At junction T4 join the A5 going west (sign posted Brownhills)

At the first roundabout take the 2nd exit signposted A5 Brownhills.

At the next roundabout take the 2nd exit towards Lichfield (A5127).

At the next roundabout just past the railway bridge take the 2nd exit (A51) sign posted Stafford.

Stay on the A51 for about 4 miles until you see the sign B5013 for Abbots Bromley.

At this roundabout take the 3rd exit and follow the signs for Abbots Bromley.

Staying on the B5013 go 1 Mile past The Yorkshireman pub (keeping it on your right) and then turn right into Colton. Colton House is the three storey Georgian house half a mile along on the right.

 

 

ARRIVAL

On arrival at the property you can park at the front or go round the left hand side of the house (through the double entrance gates). These are closed every night. There are no marked parking bays but there is room for 15 cars.

We can assist with guest’s luggage etc. There are no steps if entering the building via the back door.

Reception can be approached from the front or back door. If the front door is locked please ring the door bell, if not enter and ring the bell at reception. All the doors on the ground floor are between 82-86cm wide and the whole floor is at the same level.

 

PUBLIC AREAS

Our corridors to the ground floor and dining room are at least 1m wide and the doors between 82 to 86cm wide. Corridors have a good colour contrast and are well lit. The flooring throughout the house is short pile carpet. If you are blind and have a dog, please talk to us about arrangements. The breakfast room is on the ground floor.

There are seven steps to the first landing, six steps to the second landing followed by a further eight to the first floor bedrooms. The stairs are 14cm high, 33cm deep and 1.3m wide.

To reach the second floor, you are required to climb a further 21 steps. These stairs are 14cm high, 33cm deep and 1.2m wide.

There is a second staircase that also serves all floors that has treads 30cm, risers of 16cm and is 1m wide. It has short pile carpet.

There is a fully equipped disabled WC as well as a gents and a separate ladies loo on the ground floor.

 

DINING ROOM, BAR AND LOUNGES

Breakfast is served in the dining room on the ground floor. There are no steps. The furniture layout is flexible and can be moved on request.

Tables have an under space of 62cm high x 115cm wide and height of 74cm (legs on each corner). All chairs have no arms. Menus can be provided in large print.

We do sometimes play background music or use the radio in the dining room.

 

LAUNDRY

Available – with a laundry bag in all bedrooms, clean items generally returned the same day.

 

BEDROOMS

There are 11 bedrooms, none on the ground floor, five on the first floor and six on the top floor. There are a range of bathrooms with different facilities.  All have WC, washbasin shower and bath, with all having a tiled floor. Some have: – a sunken bath, a shower with no step to get in, grab rails, jacuzzi.

Door widths, main and bedrooms are generally 85cm wide; bedrooms can have a double or twin beds. Furniture is generally not moveable. Single beds are 75cm wide, double beds are between 1.35-1.8m wide and between 2m – 2.1m long.

Televisions have remote control and Freeview/Radio. Two armchairs or a settee are provided in most bedrooms and all are fitted with short pile carpet.

Free WiFi is available in all rooms.

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Assistance dogs are welcome. Mobile phone reception is generally good. We are able to use the front and back doors (four doors) in the event of evacuation; the fire alarm rings continuously in all rooms and also flashes if evacuation is needed. If you require more assistance for evacuation please notify us on arrival and we will ensure that you are evacuated safely.

We are a no smoking building, but smoking is allowed in the back garden which has level entry and a bin is provided. We supply a small mini bar in the bedrooms which can be used for medication/food and we can put larger items in the main fridge on request (not available 24hours).
